09/30/00 Where We've Been...

Perhaps you've seen this newsletter before and wondered why it hasn't been updated in several months... Perhaps you've been wondering where we've been all this time...

Various things have happened to limit our time and keep us from regularly updating a newsletter. A number of changes have happened within the guild as well...

Since last spring (in no particular order):

Our previous editor, Grunwald, took a break from life in Britannia. We are hoping he will return to brighten up our tavern again before the year is through.

A large portion of our guild members left to form a new guild. After that, activity in KOS declined. Summer came, and many of us found our time taken up in another realm, leaving less time to spend with our friends in Sosaria.

House placement was finally available in Trammel. Many of our members placed houses, and even a castle. Moving and decorating became a major undertaking, and, for some, a passion. I'm glad to say that Breti has finished work on the castle. Along with having a guild base in Trammel, the castle enables us to have a tavern and a large rune library, open to the public.

I volunteered to serve on the Trinsic Council of Honor and, after a few months, was made Vice Mayor under Mayor Nova. I enjoy my work with the Council, but it is time consuming.

The red ancient wyrm that's mentioned in an article here from April 18, 2000, became known as Lady Liane. She is an important figure in events and battles surrounding a certain demon, Nostur'yl, who wishes to cause all sorts of problems in Felucca. Many of the realm's best mages and warriors have died trying to defend a series of obsidian posts from coming into Nostur'yl's possession. Lady Liane has helped the forces of light repeatedly.

But... our houses are decorated now. Our members who were away for the summer are back. We have a renewed energy for activities in Sosaria, for running the tavern, for recruiting, and for helping others whenever needed.

Our guild meeting of September 5th helped get us back on track. We talked about sponsoring several events, established a new guild hunt time and changed the bartending days and location. One of the events, the Smithing Give-Away, has already happened. It was hugely successful and lasted five hours.

Our Name-The-Tavern Contest is currently underway. We have several ideas for future events that we hope will be even more exciting.

For dates and times of upcoming events, please check our calendar. We will also endeavor to post details here as they become available.

We look forward to a bright and shining future for the Knights of Sosaria!

09/30/00 Tour Turned to Hunt

On September 30, I tried to hold a small guild tour of attractions around Trammel. But due to poor planning and little notice on my part, only two others showed up at the tavern. So Ka'alazar, Twayn, and myself decided to head to Shame instead. I know at least Twayn and myself had missed the last guild hunt on Tuesday, and had not ventured to the dungeons since the gods had changed much about them.

Not knowing what a good spot to gate into would be, we feared the unknown and chose to gate right to the entrance and slowly make our way into the depths. After taking a little time to get regrouped, we entered. As you might know already, the first level is basically the same. This night it was crowded, so I suggested we head to the second level.

And stranger overheard us and heeded great warning about going below. He asked if we were mages and how many were in our group. We told him we were a mere three, but we had a mage and two strong warriors. I thanked the man for the warning, with every intention of still going to level two. Twayn and I dismissed this man's words. I believe Twayn said, "Sounds like fun."

So we made our way down. After getting away from the crowds near the bridge, we encountered a room full of air elementals. After quickly dispatching these elementals and gathering loot, we walked the caves a bit further.

No sooner had Twayn stated, "I want to see one of those dull copper elementals," then we were surrounded by at least four. Twayn and I did well to heal each other, keeping close enough, as Ka'alazar cast offensive spells on the elementals and healed us when needed. As the group of elementals thinned, I found one behind some rocks that I could not reach to melee. Being foolish, I teleported in, but quickly realized Twayn could not follow. Now we could not heal each other. Twayn was rather quick to point out my mistake, and I began working to teleport back to the center of the room.

The Dull Coppers were really starting to over take the room, seeing our weakness when I divided the group. I ran to Twayn, but it was too late. With the loss of health from these curiously exploded elementals, I fell to the ground. My wonderful steed suffered an honorable death trying to protect my corpse.

We retreated to the far side of the bridge, and Twayn brought life to me once again. I apologized, and we headed back so that I could gather my stuff. After Ka'alazar and Twayn kept the elementals away from me long enough for me to gather my belongings, Ka'alazar headed up to level one.

Twayn and I learned that if we stood fast and healed each other quickly, we could take a number of these dull copper elementals. The monsters came in such numbers, all we did was fight and heal, fight and heal. I believe a good amount of gold, gems, and other loot sunk into the ground simply because we did not have enough time to gather it.

Finally the line of Dull Coppers began to fade, and feeling confident, Twayn and I walked deeper into the dungeon. We came across another hunting party, who had there hands full with a Kraken. Twayn and I stood there, and watched carefully trying to learn of the power of this beast we had only heard about. The Kraken was distracted with the other adventures, so it paid no attention to these two members of KOS just standing there.

An air elemental, dull copper elemental, and a sea serpent were also nearby. Twayn lunged at the sea serpent, just able to reach it from the bank. I quickly followed. The air and dull copper snuck up behind us, but we paid no attention as the sea serpent was close to being slain.

I watched over my shoulder as the other hunting party ran down a dead end passage with the Kraken in close pursuit. But somehow, the party quickly disappeared and the Kraken moved with great speed towards Twayn. Even with my best efforts, I could not heal Twayn fast enough and he bolted, knowing this was a group we could not stand up to.

I cast In Vas Mani and took pursuit of this Squire. While the Kraken was fast, I was faster. I saw Twayn on the other side of a narrow bridge and the Kraken in the middle. I ran past the Kraken, thinking it was in pursuit of Twayn. But it only took a quick second as I passed to deliver what must have been a 60 point attack on me. I knew now why Twayn had decided to run.

Without my horse for speed, and Twayn on foot as well, we ran as fast as our legs allowed. I got ahead a little ways and found a narrow spot in the cave. As Twayn caught up, I threw up a wall of stone leaving the Kraken on the other side. We now had enough room to get away from the Kraken before one of us fell.

We stopped to catch our breath back at the teleporter to level one and decided we had tested our luck enough for the night. After checking in party that Ka'alazar was okay, we headed back to the tavern for a much deserved drink and a good laugh about how we learned what not to do in Shame.

As Twayn takes the damage, Ka'alazar and Halas heal him while dispatching the air elementals. After Twayn expresses interest in seeing a Dull Copper Elemental, the monsters are quick to oblige him.

The Castle is located on the plains north of Trinsic, east of the Shrine of Spirituality, and west of the swamps (76o 38'S, 32o 52'E). Our tavern is currently open for business, so feel free to stop in for a drink or inspiration. Staff will be on hand on Thursdays and Fridays from 8-10pm EST.

Just a reminder of the rules...

1) Anyone may submit multiple names
2) In the case of a duplicate name being chosen the person to submit the name first shall win.

09/26/00 Guild Hunt

Eager to see some of the recent changes to dungeons, our guild hunt this night took us to Shame. We found the first level to be much as we knew it to be in the past. So we ventured down to the second level...

We were immediately beset upon by a swarm of air elementals -- yet they did not last long. *grins*

We also fought dull copper elementals there, and several of us fought our first kraken. Overall, the hunt went well and there was plenty of loot for everyone.

09/19/00 A Few Drinks + A Good Idea = 50k!

As I wiped down the bar and picked up the empty ale bottles scattered about, a couple guildmates were waking up the patrons who had passed out and providing transportation home. One man rode out of the tavern sitting backwards on his horse. Another had almost ripped a lantern off the wall mistaking it for a door handle.

As one adventurer placed some gold on the counter, he asked "So what is the name of this fine establishment anyway?"

"Why, it's the Rune Library Tavern" I responded. But at the same time, "KOS Tavern", and "The Wisp II", were spoken by my guildmates. We looked at each other and laughed, realizing this tavern had never been given a formal name. It's time this was remedied...

******************************************

The Knights of Sosaria are in need of a name for the tavern located upstairs in the Trammel-based Elysium Rune Library Castle. We invite all to be a part of the naming and send in your ideas. We will be giving away a cash prize for the best name. There are a few simple rules:

1) Anyone may submit multiple names
2) In the case of a duplicate name being chosen the person to submit the name first shall win.
3) All entries must include contact information (character name and email or icq #)
4) All submissions must be received by midnight of Saturday, September 30, 2000
5) Due to sign constraints, the name must be a maximum of 27 characters.

The members of KOS will have a private meeting to select the winning name. The winner will receive, in addition to the satisfaction of naming the tavern, a check for 50,000 gold pieces!!

The following Saturday a celebration will be thrown at the tavern and the prize will be given away. While not required, we will be giving preference to names that have meaning to the Knights of Sosaria.

The Castle is located on the plains north of Trinsic, east of the Shrine of Spirituality, and west of the swamps. Our tavern is currently open for business, so feel free to stop in for a drink or inspiration. Staff will be on hand on Thursdays and Fridays from 8-10pm EST.

Thank you, and may the creativity flow,

09/19/00 Guild Hunt

Just after I awoke this day, I began checking my armor and filling my reagent bag. It was time for the guild hunt. We had just recently established a new time for our weekly event. While I am not usually able to attend, I made sure to make time for tonight's hunt. After getting everything prepared, I recalled to the castle to find Mia, Breti, and Anubis waiting on me.

I chose where we would go, or at least made the suggestion. I wanted to mark the mage tower. It's very deep in the Fire Dungeon -- not something we could fight through. Since I had a rune marked for the tower in Felucca, we decided to go there, then drop a stone and head back to Trammel.

We got to Delucia all right. I knew I had a rune in the bank somewhere, but for the life of me, I couldn't find it. I felt bad because everyone was waiting on me as I fumbled around in my bank box. Finally Breti says he has one, and he opens a gate. Before we could warn Mia and Anubis how dangerous the place was, they all ran through. But I wasn't able to -- silly gates.

They got swarmed. I assume they all scattered. I heard in party from Anubis. He is dead. Not ten seconds later, Mia is dead. And all I can do is walk around the Delucia bank, cursing up and down.

Finally, I found my rune. But would you believe it -- it's blocked. So Breti hid for awhile, surveying the situation and trying to get to the corpses before they decayed. And I continued to recall to this blocked rune. Oh, it really hurt.

Before long, things calmed down. I recalled in and ressed Anubis and Mia as Breti got their belongings. Oh... And also, Breti didn't have bank rune on him for Delucia, so he couldn't get out. What a mess -- we looked like amateurs.

We regrouped at the bank and got some extra runes. We went back and dropped a moonstone. Anubis didn't get through. Since he was left behind, Breti went back to rescue him. Overall, it wasn't until nearly an hour that we got where we wanted to be and actually started hunting for fun. But hey, I got my rune marked!

Later that night, Rhoan Lee was able to join us, as well as Gwendolyn. Anyway, that was my adventure for the day. It really was fun to get out again and slay some evil.

09/08/00 KOS Smithing Give Away!!!

Did your last spear snap in half as you plunged it into the stomach of an ettin? Or is your chainmail tunic so battered your guildmates laughed at you on your last hunt? Or perhaps you are the type of person just never passes up free goods....

Then this event for you!

Next Friday (Sept. 15) at 7pm (EST.) the Knights of Sosaria are sponsoring a smithing give away. We will be giving out weapons and ringmail or chainmail armor to those that simply show up, as long as the ingots last! Just come to the Elysium Rune Library Castle in Trammel. Our smith will be making and distributing goods in the Smith room, located in the North East corner of the Castle.

Some additional details:

Each adventurer who comes can get up to 3 weapons of their choice or an archer suit of armor. All items will be crafted by a Grandmaster Smith. There will be a generous yet limited number of ingots on hand, thus the event will last until all the ingots are gone. Any smiths or miners who would like to donate their skills or ingots, please contact our event coordinator.

The Castle is located on the plains north of Trinsic, east of the Shrine of Spirituality, and west of the swamps. We will be providing gates to the Castle 15 minutes before the scheduled event time from both Britain banks, the Trinsic North Bank, and the bank in Vesper.

There is also a tavern located in the upstairs center section of the Castle. From 8-10pm (EST.) it will staffed by a member of KOS. You are welcome to have a drink on us after visiting our smith.

So throw down your dull katana or mangled leggings, and start the weekend off with some brand new weapons or armor!

09/03/00 KOS is Recruiting

One night during the Jou'nar occupation, I was traveling alone looking to make some gold and keep my fighting skills honed. I decided to battle the undead outside the fallen city of Trinsic. I grabbed my silver longsword, some reagents, and recalled to the forest just outside the city gate.

I was alone this evening because no one from my guild was around, nor had they been around in weeks. I figured that as long as I was careful and kept myself away from the lich lords, I would be within my fighting abilities. I found myself in the thick trees, immediately armed my heater and sword, and began slashing at a mummy. With the extra power of the silver weapon, I could take these undead, I told myself. And so I moved around fighting bone knights and mummies while avoiding the lich lords. As the monsters grew thin, and Jou'nar was slow to draw up more undead from the ground, I moved to the road.

As I traveled north, I found some more mummies to dispatch. Around a bend in the road, I came a running and ran right into a powerful dragon. The impact knocked me back so hard I almost fell to the ground. I also saw a group of people there, maybe six of them. Not wanting to intrude on their hunting area, I turned around and headed back down the road. A few more bone knights came charging in front of me, and I made quick work of them. Then one of the people from the group I ran into hailed me.

"Halas, where is your guild tonight?" the man named Zappa inquired.

"Well, they are not around.." I explained. This reminded me why I had been unhappy with my guild lately.

"Then you can hunt with us tonight... And later we usually go back to the tavern for a drink. You are welcome to join us," Zappa replied.

I thought to myself: hunt with us, ale, tavern... I am always happy to hunt with others and have never been known to turn down a drink.

So we hunted together that night. I melee fought a lich lord while Zappa skillfully applied bandages to me and others pounded away on the beast. I asked Zappa about the tavern they would go to when done as we stood around waiting for more undead to rise from the ground. He told me of the Wandering Wisp Tavern and its connection to KOS.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This was my first encounter with the Knights of Sosaria. After meeting some more of their members at the Wisp, I knew this guild was where I belonged. Within the next few days I left my old guild and became a squire to KOS member Gwendolyn. I have been more than satisfied ever since.

Now, I am in charge of recruiting for KOS. But do not worry, if you wish to join this fine guild, I will not require that you run through packs of undead by yourself just hoping to stumble across us. We are currently taking all types of people, regardless of skills or abilities.

We are a roleplaying guild who follows the eight Virtues. KOS founded the player-run town of Elysium and is strongly linked with the Trinsic Council of Honor, as well as some of the other Town Councils. In our newly decorated castle in Trammel, we have an extensive rune library for public use.

If this sounds like a guild you might be interested in, visit our web tome to learn more. On the bottom left of our web page is a link to our application. Simply fill it out, and email to the name provided.
