12/12/00 Guild Hunt

This evening's guild hunt was the first under our new idea of having predetermined Huntsman and location decided before the hunt night. Unfortunately, this did not work as smoothly as planned. I, Halas, volunteered to be the Huntsman and had a couple places in mind. But I arrived late, and after some discussion with Cubrethil and Gwendolyn, decided to go elsewhere.

But, I do believe the hunt to be a success. Those that came were Cubrethil, Gwendolyn, Twayn, and Wiitigoo. Aerindell joined us only slightly later. We decided to make the hunt interesting by venturing somewhere no one had been since the changes to the dungeons. The party went to Wrong to fight the evils of the land.

The first level only contained some lizardmen and lesser mages -- twas no match for our strong party. So we went deeper. On the next level down, we found blue robed npc mages, brigands, and executioners. The mages were tough, as many of us had seen before. But the executioners were a learning experience; be careful when approaching them. Gwen and I both fell victim to these hard hitting axe-weilding men. But luckily, with the help of some friendly mages, the party rallied and managed to fight back the large numbers.

We found that blade spirits proved to be the best way to deal with the executioners. But with a lack of mages in our party, and Gwen being too busy healing us, we were left to melee them. Twayn and I relied on quick and skillful healing while the others let arrows fly and healed as necessary.

With a high degree of teamwork and skill, tonight's hunting party was successful in venturing in an unknown dungeon against unknown enemies. Of course, the hunt ended back at the Dragon, as many members needed to leave. We reflected on our hunt while sipping some much deserved ale, and even socialized with members of AVG, who were in Wrong with us and followed our gate out. A special thanks to Twayn who donated his shard of gold to split amongst the rest of the party.

11/04/00 KOS Assists In Protection of Caravan

Twas the eve of the caravan, scheduled to travel from Yew to Trinsic, with a stop in Britain, and I was getting something less than a restless nights sleep. With the past history of trouble with pirates, and the route through orc territory, I was nervous. The Knights of Sosaria had agreed to help protect the caravan, which made me proud. But my worries were of something else, Gwendolyn would be along for the caravan as always, and the thought of harm coming to her worried me more than the of losing some raw materials and goods for Trinsic to the vile orcs.

I awoke the next day, and everything seemed hazy. Going through the motions of readying my armour and supplies, I had a hard time concentrating. Six of us met at the guild tower, Gwendolyn, Breti, Brunor Pickaxe, Twayn, Grunwald, and myself. Together we traveled to the Shrine of Justice to listen to a speech by Windlord, the Sage of Justice. His words were comforting and educational on the topic of Justice. It reassured me in that many times I have thought to seek vengeance, I made the virtuous decision in not doing so. From there, the caravan prepared on the roads of Yew.

What a sight that was, warriors and mages alike, with the common goal of protecting the caravan, streamed down both sides of the road as far as the eye could see. I do not know how many were in attendance, as I could hardly see the majority of people.

The number of travelers together made the pace slow, and we fell near the end of the pack. This was not a worry to me, as I figured any frontal attack would be larger and more dangerous than a daring ambush from behind. A long ways we traveled without incident, until we approached the guardpost south of Yew. At one point, Cubrethil was able to meet up with us, bringing our number to seven. The caravan came to a stop, but because we were in the back, it was hard to tell why. My curiosity got the better of me, and I rushed forward through the line to see what was happening. As I neared the front, I saw people engaged in combat! I unsheathed my katana and did my best to aid those protecting the caravan, though I think my efforts were not needed. As I began to swing violently, I noticed the large number of corpses on the ground already.

As I smiled proudly at my success in helping to defend, I realized I had abandoned our own pack horses, as well as Gwendolyn. So I turned my steed around and quickly pushed my way back down the caravan line, put at ease to find everyone safe. The horses began moving again, and we continued to shuttle the supplies closer to Britain where we planned to load the cargo onto ships.

There were a few skirmishes along the road, one that almost took down many in the guild. We had become stragglers, only traveling with a handful of people from LOA, but alas those true of heart were victorious once again. We bumped into Twayn down the road, who was lacking life. Apparently he had gotten involved with some battles further down the road. I brought life back to him, and I believe Grunwald went to help gather his belongings. The rest of the way to the docks at Britain was uneventful, luckily. I am not sure of the order of these events, as the whole day seemed hazy to me.

After assisting some other caravan members to load their belongings and locate boats of their own, the six of us and two pack horses boarded the boat, with Breti at the helm. Gwen and I tended the pack horses, while Brunor and Grunwald took defensive positions on our gangplanks and Twayn stood watch on the bow. It was a sight to see on the ocean. Surely no one would attack this well prepared party. Cubrethil, after an ill experience, had decided not to continue on. At some point, I do not know when, Breti was thrown from the boat. He made his way safely to the docks of Trinsic. Twas good to hear he was safe, but his skills would have been greatly helpful as we engaged in battle with a boat full of the undead from OES. With everyone hurting from poison fields cast upon our decks we made a quick retreat. Luckily the aggressors did not pursue as we continued on our way to Trinsic.

Upon arrival at Trinsic we were greeted by many on the docks, some of which did not even know where the Bazaar was to take place. Gwen rushed off to help set up tables and spaces for the craftsman looking to sell their wares. I took the pack horses to the Royal Bank so that the supplies could be unloaded. Upon joining the Bazaar, I found Grunwald manning a table full of -- what else in true KOS fashion -- free booze and food. I made a few rounds to other banks in the realm to provide gates for any who wished to join Bazaar. Course, when I returned, I quickly found myself taking position next to Grunwald, making use of the free ale.

Overall, it was a proud day to be part of the Knights of Sosaria. We had helped defend the caravan; one more safe shipment of goods from Yew arrived. And more importantly, I did not see harm come to my dear. But we cannot relax for long, for another caravan will be taking place, and I am sure KOS will proudly volunteer to once again assist.
