08/14/99 More Ghost Sightings

I have just received reports of more mysterious ghost appearances, similar to the one reported last Sunday at the Trinsic Council Meeting. Callisto Gabriel was witness to both appearances. She tells me that a ghost appeared at the Graduation Ceremony last night at West Yew University. Another ghost, this one named Tessa, appeared this morning in front of Leiah's Rune Library. It seems that both ghosts had the same message:

Trinsic Paladins did not aid...Paws honor betrayed....
For all travelers that hear...a curse follows ye...far and near

I plan to attend the Trinsic Council meeting tomorrow to see if I can learn more about Paws and this curse.

08/10/99 Ghost Appearance: An Eyewitness Report

There was a ghost at the Trinsic meeting this week. It had a cryptic message that only Lady Orchid (Mayor of Trinsic) understood. We followed it until it disapeared and then went to the Wisp to see if it went there because it mentioned Paws.

08/08/99 Ghost Appearance at Today's Trinsic Council Meeting

Orchid, Mayor of Trinsic from the Trinsic Council of Honor, met with Lady Nova at the Wandering Wisp this evening. They discussed the unusual appearance of a ghost at today's council meeting and the mysterious appearance of a second ghost later. During this conversation, of all the coincidences, a ghost walked into the Wisp and appeared before them. Lady Nova and Orchid were able to resurrect Man of War, who told them how he killed two murderers earlier but himself was slain by the demon of lost connection. Man of War left the Wisp soon after he was resurrected, but Lady Nova and Orchid continued their conversation for some time. I was only able to record two parts of their conversation:

Orchid: We had a ghost earlier in the day
Orchid: at the council meeting
Orchid: Sir Simon was his name
Nova: Two ghosts today?
Orchid: right
(a bit later:)
Orchid: I was not present to witness the Ghost of Belle
Orchid: as for our ghost.. Sir Simon
Orchid: he told us something to the effect of:
Orchid: "In a chest hidden by the best of thieves, a letter lies sealed for eternity"
Nova: Hmm
Nova: Did you ress him?
Orchid: We could not
Nova: Where did he go?
Orchid: his apparation was incredibly unstable
Orchid: in fact upon trying to follow him, he vanished and we lost track of him
Nova: Just disappeared then?
Nova: Hmm
Nova: I wonder what he meant
Orchid: we certainly tried following him, but we lost all trace of him
Nova: Hmm
Nova: I wonder
Nova: if anyone else has seen any ghosts like that?

08/08/99 Doomed KOS Dungeon Expedition

as told by Zappa, roaming reporter

Friday night, several of the KOS explored the upper and lower areas of the Fire Dungeon in the Lost Lands. Traveling along the eastern edge of an underground lava river on the upper level, we noticed a thin rope that spanned the ravine - it was tied to a wooden post. A few of our brave members attempted to walk across the rope, only to see incredible hordes of giant snakes, lava lizards, and rats on the far edge. We took a vote on whether or not to cross the tightrope as a group, and it was wisely decided to not attempt it.

Saturday, 8/7, Caine and Zappa - still intrigued by the mysterious rope bridge - met in Serpent's Hold and found a hidden cave which gave passage to the Fire Dungeon, a short walk from the rope bridge. We were armed to the teeth and expected lots of opposition. Being well-armored and skilled in melee, Caine led the way across the rope, followed by Zappa to give magic and archery backup. The monsters advanced across the rope, and Caine slew them as they approached. Zappa summoned fire fields to incinerate the mounting hordes of creatures on the other side of the ravine. (see photo below)

Eventually the monsters were defeated and we cautiously explored the other side, where a path lead away from the ravine. Suddenly an efreet spawned in front of Caine, and several monsters appeared behind Zappa, blocking the exit to the rope bridge. Hopelessly outnumbered and cut-off from escape, Caine battled the evil efreet valiantly. Zappa carved a path back to the tightrope and barely escaped disaster. Caine died in the clutches of the efreet and its minions. We're still not sure what we'll find on the other side, but we do intend to try it again someday. Caine had a suggestion for the next time: "Basically it begins with Zappa leading this time...and we wing it from there :)"

08/07/99 Archery Training

as reported to us by Zappa, Grandmaster Archer

Many fellow KOS members, especially those with an interest in archery, have heard me talking about the "Trap the Blade Spirit" method of quickly gaining archery, tactics, and dexterity. First, a little background. I heard about this system about a year ago, while my main focus was on swordfighting. PK archers were very common in those days --archery was easier to gain back then-- but I hated the idea of running out of arrows, so I never gave it much thought. One day a gm archer mentioned this method to Callisto Gabriel and me, and we were curious. Despite the recent OSI patches this training system still works well, and I've never regretted exchanging my skills from other areas to archery.

A decent magery skill is required for this because Blade Spirit is 5th circle. Load up on food, Black Pearl, Mandrake, and Nightshade. And arrows, of course. Forget about crossbows for this exercise, they pack a punch but they're also slow as Christmas. I'd suggest 50 of each reg, 700 arrows, and 30 food. Next, find a secluded spot suitable for casting the blade spirit that will allow you to get up close to it, but prevent it from slicing you to ribbons. These areas can be hard to find, but I'd suggest one of the Shrines of Virtue. Not only do they have ridges that can be used as barriers, but they're rather nice to look at (and you'll want something to stare at, because you'll be here a while). And of course, few people bother to visit the shrines anymore.... Mark a rune at the spot, or bring a friend who can. Now, you just cast the blade spirit and shoot it from point-blank range. Every so often you'll want to pick up the missed arrows before they stack too high and you lose the excess. Cast and shoot. Cast and shoot. On average you can expect to lose 10-20 arrows per casting, depending of course on your dexterity and archery skill. Repeat until archery is 100. Don't forget to eat either. A hungry stomach doesn't raise the skill as quickly. One last thing (thanks for reminding me, Callisto): a familiarity with Dispel (6th circle) can come in handy as well. If an intruder shows up and the blade spirit targets it, you'll turn gray which leaves you vulnerable to attack without penalty. To be safe, Dispel the blade spirit or Recall out of there as soon as a stranger shows up. This system does takes a while, but it's quicker than killing Ophidian Matriarchs.

08/06/99 Evil Undead Skeleton Sighted at The Wandering Wisp

On a pleasant Friday night, a few friends and I were having a drink at our favorite tavern, The Wandering Wisp. Quite suddenly, a stranger burst in and sent an immediate chill through the place. This stranger was Gath of Baal, a skeleton from the Order of the Ebon Skull. A few of us had seen Gath once before, at the trial of the LOA Fleet earlier in the week. But we never expected to see him in our part of Britannia.

Gath decided to pick a fight with Talthazar, Crusader of the Justice League, and Parn, Paladin of the Justice League. A duel of words ensued, and I was able to capture some of it on paper (please excuse any mispellings, as this was taken verbatim).

Parn: mu have luck that we are in
Gath of Baal: Thats it
Parn: a peacefull place
Parn: Sir
Parn: !!
Gath of Baal: Release your anger
Parn: but do it again
Parn: and i'll provoke u
Parn: sure in a duel
Parn: !!
Gath of Baal: Fear leads to hate
Parn: hmpf
Gath of Baal: hate leads to anger
Gath of Baal: anger leads to...
Gath of Baal: *waits for backup*
Parn: *damn i must keep my head on shoulders*
Parn: *don't panik!*
Gath of Baal: The Darkside
Talthazar: *sigh*

I'm glad to report that no blood was shed during this duel, though I did have to sweep up a broken bottle and put a barstool back in its place.
